Many vehicles have extended life coolant that can last up to 5 years. Your vehicles cooling system needs to be periodically checked to ensure that it can provide an adequate level of protection from the low temperatures of winter and the heat of summer.

Your radiator hoses need to be checked regularly for leaks and to ensure the rubber is not swollen or hard and brittle.

Antifreeze

Your vehicles antifreeze protects your engine from both overheating by raising the boiling point of the fluid as well as lowering the freezing point of the fluid. You need to have your cooling system regularly check for proper fluid level and freezing point.

Normally this will be checked during regulate oil change service.

You need to change your antifreeze when the rust inhibitors in the coolant expires. This is every 2 to 5 years depending on what type of coolant is in your engine. Different coolants have different colors, the color is not an indicator of the type of coolant. Both 2 year and 5 year coolant can be red in color so you need to check with the coolant manufacturer to be sure what coolant is used in you vehicle.

Service consists of flushing your cooling system every 2 or 5 years as needed.
