Charging Systems
Todays vehicles use alternators to keep your battery properly charged. Newer charging systems use regulated voltage systems to precisely control charging voltage. Regulated voltage systems lower alternator output once the battery is fully charged, this helps prevent battery sulfation and extends the life of your battery.
Typical alternator output voltage is about 14 volts and 80 to 100 amps. Testing your charging system will include checking the output voltage and loading the electrical system and verifying that the alternator can obtain its maximum amperage output.
Typical Failures
- Low voltage output
- Low amperage output
- Noise
